A moral dilemma, 9+
The philosopher Aristibule is called to the court of a king of ancient Greece. The king asks the philosopher “what he should do with the poor”. Aristibule responds with a moral dilemma, hinting at the fact that poor people are not really responsible for being poor. The theme of this social and moral tale, which has been studied extensively by Jean Piaget and Lawrence Kohlberg, in particular, can generate fruitful discussions among readers of the story. Discussion questions are provided at the end of the text.
